How does the Reflux Band work?

The upper esophageal sphincter, or UES, is a muscle at the top of your esophagus that opens when you swallow and otherwise remains closed to prevent stomach contents from coming back up into your throat and lungs. A weak or compromised UES has trouble staying closed, so acid reflux enters the throat. The Reflux Band is worn while sleeping and applies slight external pressure to help the UES function normally.
